Introducing Men's + Women's Circles for Whistler in 2024

Mental Health is as important as our physical health. It impacts how we show up in the world and our ability to manage our feelings and deal with everyday challenges.

But we cannot do it alone, and we shouldn't.

And that is why Creekside Health has two counsellor-led circles facilitated by two of our Registered Counsellors to help be an additional support for our town of Whistler, BC.

Ian MacLeod will lead the Men's group and Jenilee Losie the Women's.

The series will feature 4-weekly evening meetings. Registration is $50; all proceeds will be donated to a local charity.

 Space is limited! Register now!

It's a safe, open, and non-judgemental space.

January 22nd to February 12th, 2024.

“I find men's circle important because it offers an inclusive space where men can gather and integrate with other men, role models, and possibly mentors who can nurture, guide, and support each other through healing and healthy masculinity. ”
– Ian MacLeod, MA CYC RCC

 Tuesday Women's Nights

“In a time where loneliness is as detrimental to our health as smoking cigarettes, a women's circle offers a safe space for women of all backgrounds to come and connect with and support each other on some of the deepest and most meaningful challenges we face in today's world.”
– Jenilee Losie, MA, CCC

Mental health is fundamentally about our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, how we handle stress and relate to others, and plays a crucial role in our overall health. Good mental health isn't just the absence of mental health disorders like depression or anxiety; it also involves maintaining a positive state of mind, which includes coping effectively with life's challenges and building strong relationships.

Group support and one-on-one support are both important for nurturing and maintaining mental health:

  1. Group Support:

    • Shared Experiences: In a group setting, individuals can share experiences and challenges, which often helps reduce feelings of isolation. Knowing others face similar issues can be comforting and validating.

    • Diverse Perspectives: Group members offer different perspectives and coping strategies, providing a broader range of insights and solutions to problems.

    • Peer Support: Learning from peers who have faced similar challenges can be incredibly empowering. Group members often provide each other with practical advice and emotional support.

    • Social Skills Development: Participating in a group helps develop communication and social skills, which are vital for mental health and overall well-being.

  2. One-on-One Support:

    • Personalized Attention: Individual support allows for more personalized care. Therapists or counselors can tailor their approach to suit an individual’s specific needs and challenges.

    • Privacy and Intimacy: One-on-one settings often make it easier to discuss deeply personal or sensitive issues, as it provides a more private and intimate space.

    • Focused Therapy: Individual therapy can focus intensely on particular issues, allowing for deeper exploration and understanding of personal mental health challenges.

    • Building Trust: It enables the development of a strong, trusting relationship between the individual and the therapist or counselor, which is crucial for effective therapy.

  1. Both group and one-on-one support play vital roles in managing mental health. While group settings provide a sense of community and shared experience, one-on-one support offers personalized and focused care. Both settings contribute to a holistic approach to mental health, helping individuals build resilience, foster emotional well-being, and improve their overall quality of life.
